Research and Development
In 2004, we established GERMI. We set up GERMI initially to help develop the talent pool for the oil and gas sector and to conduct research and training for petroleum engineers. GERMI now also assists in devising techno-economically feasible solutions for various problems we encounter in our exploration, drilling, production and transportation operations. GERMI is organised as a registered society and trust with the Principal Secretary–Energy & Petrochemicals Department, Government of Gujarat and our managing director being the ex-officio trustees. We have provided approximately 89.6% of its funding as on date, although equipment, services and pledges of future financial donations have been provided by other oil and gas companies.
GERMI has established the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University by a Gujarat State Legislative Act in 2007. The University is spread across 100 acres of land at Gandhinagar. The university is approved by UGC and AICTE. The University has five schools: School of Petroleum Management, School of Petroleum Technology, School of Nuclear Energy, School of Solar Energy and School of Liberal Studies. The University offers Bachelors of Technology, Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Masters of Technology for petroleum and nuclear engineering, Masters of Technology for Solar Energy, an MBA in oil and gas sector management and a Ph.D. in petroleum engineering, petroleum management and solar energy. The university has more than 1,000 students and 60 faculty on campus. The University draws students from both within and outside Gujarat. The university is also affiliated with Georgia Tech University, the University of Tulsa, the University of Houston Systems and the University of Oklahoma.
GERMI has also established the Centre of Excellence in Energy with focus oil and gas, solar and environmental research. The Centre has established a petroleum and solar laboratory. It has also planned to establish a “Green” building to house CoE-Energy at Gandhinagar and associate with world class research institutions and service companies in the energy spectrum. GERMI also plans to establish a training and development centre for updating skill set of existing manpower deployed in exploration and production sector and to offer consultancy services in the future.
